There’s only one thing better than reading a great book for the first time; reading a great book for the first time for free.
For the Bestowed Book-O-the-Month, I’m giving away a book to one lucky winner randomly drawn from subscribers of my email newsletter. This giveaway will be a new copy of something I’ve read within the last 24 months so I can make sure I’m passing along a title I would recommend people spend their own hard-earned money on. I’ll also include a page (or two or three – depending on the book) of notes I took while reading the book.
For the month of April 2017, I’ll be giving away a copy of the 25th Anniversary edition of the Alchemist. I read this book in March and it’s my favorite of 2017 so far. Brazilian author Paulo Coelho presents a simple fable beautifully told of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who longs to travel in search of his worldly treasure. His journey leads him to riches far different and far more valuable than he ever imagined.
I don’t read much fiction throughout the course of a year. My written diet consists of 80% non-fiction or more. I grabbed it at an airport bookstore on an impulse for a few different reasons: the gorgeous cover art grabbed my eye and I’m a sucker for books with rough cut edges; I thought any book that gets a special 25th anniversary printing must be good; lastly, I hadn’t purchased a book in almost a week and – like the junkie that I am – I needed a fix.
If you’re not already a subscriber to my email newsletter you can sign up using the box in the right-hand column on this page or click here. The newsletter is a weekly update that’s an easy and quick read arriving every Friday morning. The email includes brief descriptions (one or two sentences) describing what I’ve written that week and projects I’m working on. Links are provided in each section for anyone wanting to read more. I believe there’s already too much junk email without me adding to it, so I do not sell or share my list with anyone.
I’ll announce this month’s winner in my April 28th newsletter so there’s still time to sign up if you haven’t already. Good luck!
